Court gave me a point for jaywalking now my auto insurance is high, can they do that?

AskRayOkay asked:

I got a ticket from the police 2 years ago when I was 15 and a half. I am now 18 and I recently got my license, but when I applied for auto insurance it was 150 dollars more than usual because of the point court gave me for jaywalking 2 years ago. Did they make a mistake or can they really do that? It had nothing to do with driving! Now, I can’t drive because I can’t afford my insurance and they told me it’ll take 3 years until it’s completely off my record. I’m screwed! Anybody have any suggestions on who I should complain to or if they can really do that! It’ll help a lot! thanks.

You are right. It had nothing to do with driving. Find another insurance company

Obviously they CAN do it, because they did do it!

Actions have consequences, and if you break the rules, you’ll just have to deal with what happens when you get caught.
