If she “apparently” has auto insurance, she needs to check who she’s been PAYING for it.

She can check her cancelled checks, she’s most likely paying once a month, but at LEAST once a year.

She can also go down to the DMV with her license and registration, or the local police station. If the car is in her name, and she can prove who she is with a photo id, they will look it up and tell her the name of the company (Which, actually, isn’t going to do much good, as you still won’t have any CONTACT information, and each “company” can have up to 20 subsidiaries – and the SUBSIDIARY would be the listed carrier, so how would YOU know that “maryland casualty” is a subsidiary of “Zurich”?), but that won’t give her the name of the COMPANY.

And they’re not going to tell ANYONE besides the registered owner, thinking they are likely a stalker.

But, if she really has no idea . . .I’d suggest that it’s much MORE likely that she let coverage lapse, and is afraid to tell you. Heck, she might have a hold on her license, how would you know? Florida is the uninsured motorist capital of the US – more uninsured drivers there than anywhere else.

How can she not know? How can she not have an insurance card? How can she not know who she made the cheque payable to? How can she not remember going somewhere, meeting someone, and signing some papers? Nobody is that stupid. Unless she has never applied for insurance, period. This is a ridiculous question.

Try to gathered some related documents about you car insurance. You can try to visit some car insurance site if you want for familiarization it will provide you list of car insurance companies that you may use for your problem. Goodluck

In SOME not all states it is reported to the Department of Licensing (I know they did in Georgia)…so checking with them is an option. Also, if the car’s not paid off, SOME not all auto financers require proof on file of who you insured the vehicle through, so there’s another option to check through. And like the others said, look through the bank/check statements to see who was paid.

In Maryland, it’s printed on the vehicle registration card, but not on the title or tag.

I cannot comprehend how someone would not know who their insurance is with, Especially since you must carry proof of it in your car in the event that you do get pulled over. Check the glove box if there is no insurance card, I would guess that she really does not have any, and without that card if pulled over or in an accident she will be ticketed, and be given only a few days to prove that she in fact does have insurance.

You won’t find the info on the tag or title info. Look at your checkbook or credit card statement for the name of the company. Most companies send you a card to carry in the vehicle.

Look back through your bank statements and see who you paid for it.

well if she paid for it there’s got to be some record of it. how in the hell can u not know? i’d say she doesnt have any.
