Each state may be different but a lapse of more than 30 days requires written to a non standard company.

Website content

In Washington one day will put you in high risk levels. My insurance jumped 600% on an error. I proved I was insured in the interim and it still was not at my previous level with my insurer discounts so I got my new Progressive policy and paid with my Credit card on the spot. Do that or go get a payday loan and pay the bill. You will save at least that much.

As a rule automobile insurance policies have a built in 15 day grace period before the policy cancels, they will send you a cancellation notice before they do so. There is a good probability that you can make a partial payment to stave off cancellation till you can make up the difference. It costs the insurance company when a policy has to be cancelled then reinstated.

Depends on the state in which you live. Some states will not do anything until the next time you buy license, or have an accident or get a moving violation ticket, including seat belts. Other states when you get stopped for an insurance check and license check. It is really which comes first and you are asked for proof of insurance.

Caffeinated Content

in maryland, it's one day, $150.00 fine: $5.00 every day thereafter. your insurance company will provide motor vehicles with your expiration date immediately! try to get an extension from your ins. carrier, otherwise this can stay on your record a long time and insurance will be HIGH for quite awhile. do not let it expire, if it does, turn in your tags, or face big fines and insurance costs.

try to start a budget...it's better not to pay the phone bill than to let insurance expire.

also, my sis (VA insurance agent) says that in 2 states you can purchase an insurance waiver for $500 and you are liable for any accidents (VA is one)

Kansieo.com

I think any period of time that you don't have insurance is going to make it that much harder to get an insurance company to carry you. I also think that it is illegal to drive without insurance, at least it is in Washington State where I live.

I think it has more to do with your driving record, and the car you drive than the timing.

My son had a wreck first day he bought his car,he was getting insurance that day,the old man was at fault, not my son, they took my son's driver's license away for months,he paid all damage to the old man, paid $150 for 1st offense to get the license back,I would suggest asking if u can make a low down payment till your check comes in coz it can really cost ya if something like this happens!

Depends on the state insurance rules. In some states you are asked if there was ever a break in your coverage - if yes then you end up paying a lot more even if you never had an accident. Contact the insurance company - see if they will accept partial payment to carry you until the 15th.
